Leonardo da Vinci is a relatively stupid person from Planet Vinci, who visited Earth in the 15th and 16th century when he no longer could stand being mocked for his stupidity. On Earth he was considered a genius, and became a scientist, painter, engineer, inventor, mathematician and writer among other things. He eventually left Earth when he couldn't stand being surrounded by so stupid people.
In 3010, he found his long lost invention thanks to the professor and Fry. The invention, a doomsday machine, was used to attack his enemies on Planet Vinci, but Fry managed to stop it before killing too many.
Da Vinci was presumably killed when hit by a cog from his malfunctioning doomsday machine.

Quotes
Leonardo da Vinci: You have learned my big secret... I was but a visitor to Earth. In truth, I am what you call, a space alien.
Leonardo da Vinci: Behold, my unstoppable doomsday machine!
Philip J. Fry: And I helped! ...wait, you told me it was an unstoppable ice cream machine!
Leonardo da Vinci: Ice cream is just a bi-product of the machine. It's primary purpose is to exterminate everyone who ever made me feel inferior!
Leonardo da Vinci: Oh yeah?! Let's see how hard you're when my doomsday machine chops off your face!
